Cannon Equipment is a Minnesota based manufacturer that designs and builds retail merchandising systems including front-end checkout fixtures.

To help accelerate commercialization of their innovative VersaGrid™ modular wire merchandising system for grocery retailers Cannon engaged Ascension.


Ascension was challenged to develop a customized web-based technology application that would enable Cannon field sales reps to configure retailer specific front-of-house merchandising systems as part of the face-to-face sales process and wirelessly communicate the order to Cannon’s Tennessee based manufacturing facility.

The goal was to empower field sales and shorten manufacturing cycle times thereby accelerating time to market.

The laptop sales development and manufacturing platform designed by Ascension quickly became a game changing application for the company.

Using PHP and Java Script technology Ascension developers designed an elegant wireless web-based system named VersaGrid™. It enabled Cannon sales reps to design retail front-end merchandising layouts and required wire racking components during sales calls. With customer approval the system immediately processed the manufacturing order wirelessly to Cannon’s plant which then initiated production of the customer’s order.


VersaGrid™ quickly became a game changing application for Cannon. The VersaGrid™ system helped the company to accelerate revenue production and shorten cycle times for the system to grocery retailers nationwide.
